She also talks about emotional and mental resilience and what that looks like from a biblical perspective, while weaving in lifestyle practices that support emotional/mental health. Finally, Julie encourages and equips listeners to be ready to wield the sword of Truth that enables them to stand strong against the enemy of their soul. Julie publishes new episodes every other Wednesday. The content of episodes may include guest interviews, Julie’s perspective on new research or books, fitness tips, education on plant-based remedies, Bible study, and other content Julie feels listeners may need to live 360 Resilient. The first ten episodes are with women business owners and explore their experiences and tips on resilience, some from a Christian perspective. More about Julie: First, Julie is a Christ follower and mother of four grown children who she homeschooled from the beginning. She is a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach, a Certified Personal Trainer, and holds a Master of Science degree in Health & Human Performance. In addition, she is a trained herbalist and aromatherapist. Julie is the author of two books for homeschooling parents, two Bible studies, and three botany curriculums. Join Julie as she talks about the differences between grief, sadness, and depression from a biblical perspective.
First, Julie reminds listeners that emotions are information, not identity, and when we observe our emotions, they help us better understand ourselves. They invite us to ask questions that lead to insight.
Have you ever heard of unrighteous sadness? Listen in and hear what that is and what we are to do with it. It is unrighteous sadness that can open the door to depression, a form of extreme sadness.
While depression can have many causes, it often has a spiritual component. Unlike sadness, depression is not just an emotion. It is a multidimensional experience affecting mind, spirit, and body. It has the marks of demonic influence.
The following verses can encourage us and remind us of our Hope.
Psalm 69, Psalm 88 (David cries out in lament), Psalm102, Psalm143
Lamentations 3: 19-26
James 1: 2-4
2 Corinthians 4:9

In the first episode in our new series about sadness, Julie talks about sadness and depression from a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective. TCM regards the body in terms of patterns and metaphors, making discussions about the body simpler. TCM teaches that the major organs--heart/small intestine, lungs/large intestine, spleen/stomach, liver/gall bladder, and kidney/bladder--embody different emotions, life stages, disease patterns and tendencies, and much more. When it comes to sadness/grief or depression, which is a more extreme form of sadness, the associated organ is the lung. The heart, or joy, is what keeps sadness in check. Listen to the episode to hear about the interplay between the heart-joy and the lung-sadness and what the TCM perspective says about overcoming depression.

In this episode, Julie interviews Lynn Palmgren of Palmgren Acupuncture. It was a special treat since she attended the same college for post-grad education. She and Lynn talk acupuncture, pivoting, persistence, and more.
About Lynn:
After practicing as an attorney, Lynn changed careers to become an acupuncturist. This happened after she experienced extreme insomnia and turned to acupuncture for help. The medicine didn’t disappoint and she was sleeping soundly in a few weeks.
About a year after her first treatment when she was looking to change careers she didn’t have to look far for inspiration.
Lynn left her litigator position working for the Attorney General and enrolled in Pacific College of Health and Science in Chicago, IL. After 4 years of studying in the classroom and clinical setting, she received a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine.
She went on to open Palmgren Acupuncture in Oak Park as a solo practice. After a year in business, her husband who is also an acupuncturist joined her in owning and managing the office. Since then, Lynn has helped thousands of people improve their health naturally with Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Lynn specializes in acupuncture for pain management (especially hip and back pain), insomnia, anxiety/stress, and gynecological concerns. It is her mission to make acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine more mainstream.
Outside of the clinic, Lynn volunteers for the Workers Center for Racial Justice, Oak Park-River Forest Chamber of Commerce and at her son’s school. Lynn was on the Chamber’s board for seven years and served as Vice President and a member-at-large. She is also a former Commissioner on the Village of Oak Park’s Board of Health.
Lynn holds a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science in Chicago, IL, a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Drake University Law School in Des Moines, IA, and a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. She is licensed by the State of Illinois to practice acupuncture and is a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine certified through National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, with over 3500 hours of classroom and clinical training experience. Lynn is also a member of the Illinois Society of Acupuncturists.
